william isgriggsFUGITIVE IN CUSTODY

The Crawford County Sheriff's Office would like to announce the capture of a fugitive who has been evading arrest for over 10 years. William Edward Isgriggs, 41, of Benton, Illinois was charged in October of 2013 with Statutory Rape of a Child less than 14 years old. Isgriggs fled from a deputy during the attempt to arrest him on that charge and has evaded capture ever since. Though several leads were provided over the years, Isgriggs remained at large.

Detectives with our Criminal Investigations Division(CID) with the help of the Mid States Organized Crime Information Center (MOCIC), were able to develop new information and follow investigative leads to Isgrigg's whereabouts as the 10th anniversary arrived in 2023. On January 30, 2024, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Service Fugitive Task Force, Isgriggs was located at a residence in Benton, Illinois, and taken into custody. Isgriggs was transported to our facility on February 1, 2024, where he remains in custody.

Sheriff Darin Layman stated, "I am thankful to announce the capture of one of Crawford County's Most Wanted persons. Now that Mr. Isgriggs is in custody the judicial process can proceed and hopefully, some closure for the persons involved with this crime can begin. I want to thank the hard work of our CID for making this happen, and additionally, I would like to thank the MOCIC and the US Marshal's Service for all of their resources, that allowed for a successful and long overdue capture of Mr. Isgriggs."

The suspect in this case is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of competent jurisdiction.
